A little over a year ago, Brisdoc committee awarded Bristol Hospitality Network a very generous £12,000 donation. This has enabled us to continue to run our welcome centre which has grown to support up to 90 asylum seekers and refugees each week.
The welcome centre is open from 12-3pm and provides a delicious hot lunch either from Somalia or Iran, volunteer expenses to help our asylum seeking and refugee volunteers to get to our centre by bus to volunteer throughout the year, tea and coffee and snacks for people who come hungry and some English teaching resources for our volunteer teachers.
It has also enabled us to pay staff to coordinate a hosting network of over 15 host families who provide 24/7 accommodation and support to destitute asylum seekers in their own homes.
