Hattie's Host Experience

December 11, 2014

I had a notion that I would host someone from BHN after I had been to a most welcoming and excellent meal before Christmas 2013. The meal was Iranian and there was singing afterwards and loads of laughter despite peoples troubles. It was so heartening that I thought I would join in on the fun.

I offered Rachael a place for a woman for a month to see how it worked out. BUT a call came ‘could you take someone earlier?’ and I rushed to prepare the room better than I would for myself!

Meeting Z for the first time at her then current residence, she showered me with honest information about herself and family and how she came to be where she is now. I could not take it all in but felt the reciprocity between us, we laughed and saw the fun side of life. That was good for my soul, so Z came to stay the very next week and even finished the carpet cleaning (by machine!) herself.

So she invested and I invested in our getting along together. That is the story!

We sometimes eat together and we are able to share ups and downs, strengths and weaknesses, hugs and thrills if something wonderful happens.

The day that Z came to stay was the start of a wonderful time in my life. I am so glad to share in something I believe in.

I feel stability in the last ten months has supported both of us
